Aim and Mission Statement
The Glenfield College English Department seeks to encourage all students to achieve the very best level of success they can in the use of the English language personally and through the requirements of the National English Curriculum.  It is a further and equal aim to help all students keep developing a love of language and literature such that they will be richer people for the experiences they have in reading, writing, speaking and viewing.  These aims are grounded in our belief that the philosopher Wittgenstein was correct when he said “The limits of my language are the limits of my world”.

About the Department
• The English Department has access to four classrooms of computers which are used by the students to achieve accuracy and a high standard of presentation in written work.  These computers also provide speedy access to information for research purposes.
• The English Department gives emphasis to intelligent appreciation of the vast world of film.  To this end, the department holds an extensive library of film on both VHS and DVD.
• The English Department is well resourced in modern, recently published books for both students’ and teachers’ use.
• The English Department is located in a large and comfortable area where staff have access to computing and other resource facilities.  This area is also a cornerstone of the vital communication among staff for business meetings, professional development and informal professional exchange about teaching and learning.
• The English Department is fortunate to be staffed by a combination of young and experienced, well qualified, registered teachers.
