Our Mission Statement
The Glenfield College Social Sciences Department seeks to engage students in critically analysing societal issues, and for them to develop an in-depth understanding of the study of Human behaviour. We instil this by educating the students on a broad range of topics covering issues from the past, the present, and future speculation. These themes are fundamentally significant to people as participatory citizens, and members, of the communities of Aotearoa New Zealand and the greater world.
Aims of the Glenfield College Social Sciences Department
We base our aims on the needs of our students and the requirements of the National Curriculum.
1. To examine how people participate in society and how society operates.
2. To gain the knowledge, skills and experience to understand, contribute and participate in the communities in which they live and work.
3. To explore the unique nature of New Zealand society and its bicultural heritage.
4. To encourage students to learn how societies work and how they can participate in and take social action as critical, active, informed and responsible citizens of Aotearoa New Zealand and the greater world.
