Media is a powerful force in all our lives. While it entertains and informs us, it also shapes how we think and view the world. Increasingly, we are also media producers. Whether on Facebook, creating films and music for friends, or putting clips on YouTube, media skills give access to very powerful mediums and allow us to voice our opinions.
It is the aim of the Media Studies course at Glenfield College to create a critical understanding of how media texts like TV, film and adverts are made, and why they are made; to move students away from being passive consumers, and towards having a critical awareness of the media that surrounds them. We do this by selecting topics relevant to students, providing excellent resources, and having students engage in the process of media production.
