Glenfield makes Waves for the Mentawi’s
During the past 6 weeks the Year 9 students here at Glenfield College had been learning about an international not-for-profit, and non-governmental organisation called SurfAid. SurfAid was established by a keen New Zealand surfer from Muriwai Beach, Dr Dave Jenkins in 2000 to help the people in the Mentawi’s, which is a chain of islands just off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. SurfAid helps people suffering from diseases such as Malaria, which is carried by Mosquitos. It helps out when these people suffer from natural disasters, like tsunamis. These people live tough lives and we wanted to do something to help out also. So we had a mufti day. The students of Glenfield College raised $722.30 as a result and Erik Grundy(above) then presented the cheque to Adele Hatton of Surf Aid. A big thank you to all of those who helped make a contribution to this great cause.
