Sustainability Group learn the ropes at Kaipatiki Reserve.
Members of the school’s Sustainability Group spent time after school on Wednesday learning how to care for a section of the Kaipatiki Reserve. Kaipatiki Project employees, Jackie Knight and Wayne Young instructed the students on removing invasive species such as ginger, wandering jew, montbretia, and privet as well as the use of large composting bags. The group is planning to visit the area ever 2 weeks to remove weeds and clean up the area, which will allow native seedlings to survive. The Technology department is also assisting the reserve by making signage for the plants on the walkway closest to the school.
