Yr 9’s Paws at the Zoo
The Year 9’s had a great day learning about conservation, habitats and animal behaviour last week. They spent an hour at the discovery centre learning about the effects of introduced mammals on NZ bird species in particular and the choices we need to consider in buying produce and materials that support the deforestation and consequent loss of habitat for the native animals and plants. The students were able to see the feeding and occasional handling of animals throughout the day. New areas being developed at the zoo include a Tasmanian Devil section which we will hopefully be able to see later in the year.
